MSA has been implementing campus renovations at Laurel Oaks for the Great Oaks Institute of Technology & Career Development, constructed in the 1970’€™s & 1980’s adjacent to the site of the Wilmington Air Park, a large commercial aviation facility previously used by DHL as a shipping & transit center.
The first phase of work included complete renovation of the building housing the high bay labs for Auto Collision, Auto Tech, Auto Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Carpentry, Masonry, Manufacturing Technology, Welding, and Natural Resources. Underutilized spaces were converted to science labs and general classrooms. Other labs in adjacent buildings were converted to Practical Nursing and Sports Rehabilitation programs. Structural upgrades included correction of lateral stability issues, and preventative measures to brace the building against limited seismic events. System upgrades included fire suppression, technology/data, electrical, and mechanical systems. Additionally, a large portion of the building was reroofed with Energy Star listed roofing materials to aid in reducing energy usage.
Additional phases have including conversion of a Meat Processing lab to an Animal Sciences program, expanding & renovating the media library called the Cybrary, and constructing new Dental technology labs.
