CVG International Airport Terminal 3 Wayfinding

Hebron, KY

With 7.9 million yearly passengers, intuitive wayfinding at the CVG Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is a necessity for quick navigation in, out and through the terminals. The Kenton County Airport Board hired the design team to assess all pedestrian and vehicular flow, specifically at the Transportation Center and Baggage Claim areas of Terminal 3. The existing signage was ineffective due to colorless and overused nomenclature adding to the already challenging layout and flow of the spaces. MSA’s streamlined solution reduced the quantity of exterior signs and redefined the information systems used throughout these spaces. The new signage package incorporates the use of color-coding and prominent international icons as major navigation tools for visitors. These tools are integrated into branded stations ranging from taxis and public transit, to hotel shuttle service and pedestrian pick-up. These branded areas continue from the curbside into the interior baggage claim area, blending new design into existing signage.
