As a result of an in-depth shared services analysis between the Delhi Township Fire Department and Oak Hills Local School District, MSA was hired to design a new combination Fire Station / Administration Office Complex for these two public agencies.
Due to increasing traffic, response times to portions of the Township were in excess of five minutes. The goal was to locate and construct a station to decrease response time to the four minute level. The resulting design is the union of a four-bay fire station, including sleeping and EMS support areas, and the Oak Hills Local School District Administration offices.
The building also contains a shared training facility for both the Fire Department and the School Administration. By combining these two functions, the Township was able to create a larger presence while maintaining economic and budgetary constraints. Specific design issues included site position, building materials, contextual relationships, establishing an independent image and building lighting.
