Due to increasing traffic, response times to portions of the Township were in excess of five minutes. The goal was to locate and construct a station to decrease response time to the four minute level. The resulting design is the union of a four-bay fire station, including sleeping and EMS support areas, and the Oak Hills Local School District administration offices. The building also contains a shared training facility for both the Fire Department and school administration. By combining these two functions, the Township was able to create a larger presence while maintaining economic and budgetary constraints. Specific design issues included site position, building materials, contextual relationships, establishing an independent image and building lighting.
