Norwood City Hall needed additional space to ease overcrowded conditions in the existing building. Originally, the city had planned to build a new $4 million addition to the municipal center to accommodate administrative and police functions. However, due to budget constraints, the City instead purchased an adjacent branch bank and expanded that facility to house the Norwood Police Department. MSA reviewed each of the departments for current and future needs, reviewed availability of property and existing spaces for replanning. The purchase of the bank building had several benefits. Among them, it allowed visibility and identity from the street, grade level access, ample parking for city vehicles, and close proximity to City Hall. The key concept was to provide a more open and inviting atmosphere for interacting with the public.
