MSA began working with the Middletown Municipal Court to complete a facility analysis, followed by space planning recommendations of their existing Court Facility. The initial phase was followed up by architectural and interior design services to implement the findings from the facility analysis and space planning studies in the form of a building renovation. Two overall goals throughout the project were to improve court security to address concern€™s raised by Ohio Supreme Court’s review and improve overall operational efficiency, while creating a design that maintains a level of working operations during construction.
The subsequent design addressed those goals and created project phasing to allow Middletown to maintain part of their operations throughout construction. Within the existing building footprint, the renovation design achieved a larger modern Courtroom by consolidating the existing two courtrooms. Three holding cells were created by reconfiguring existing spaces. Secure pathways were achieved from the jail and to the courtroom. Lastly, the clerical and transaction areas were redesigned to achieve more efficient workflow and security.
