When Universal Studios started developing their new theme park in Orlando, they hired six different firms to each create environmental graphics. The park was dubbed Islands of Adventure and was designed as a number of completely different themed realms. Our collaboration was hired to provide a design package for Superhero Island. The package consisted of design drawings and construction details for nearly 300 different graphics. The graphics include large-scale super hero graphic cut-outs mounted to the exterior of buildings, building use identification signage, concession and attraction signage, and miscellaneous building environmental signs. Many signs utilize a 3M computer printed vinyl adhered to sheet aluminum cut out to the design’s shape. Neon lighting is used in a number of signs along with flash lighting effects. Exterior large scale super graphics were coordinated with building structural systems for connection and wind-loading.
